Brian Fox joined the Hanley Development team in 2022, specifically supporting Hanley Development Capital with a primary focus on the business’ financial elements.
Prior to joining Hanley Development Capital, Brian served for more than 25 years with AllianceBernstein, Brown Brothers Harriman and Aberdeen Standard Investments. His tenure includes extensive experience in investment research and equity portfolio management, including investment responsibility for over $1B in equity assets. Throughout the course of his finance career, Brian developed specific skills including detailed financial modeling, risk assessment, scenario analysis and a firm understanding of macroeconomic drivers.
Brian earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Bucknell University in 1996 and lives in Hingham, MA with his wife Amy and their three children.
Director of Operations
Originally from Burlington, MA, Magdalena Reid has lived on Nantucket for almost 20 years. She currently manages Hanley Development’s daily operations, financials, investor relations and everything in between. Prior to joining our team, she served in various management positions with two local banks for nearly 15 years. For the last several years, Magdalena has served as a board member for the Community Foundation for Nantucket and embraced the community through volunteer efforts with the Nantucket Fund Grants Committee and Scholarship Committee. She is also a member of the Patient and Family Advisory Council at Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Magdalena’s active lifestyle includes cooking, traveling (when time allows) and spending time with her family, including her two favorite four-legged critters, Minnie and Louie.

Over the last 10 years, Tom has led the company’s development teams to deliver 25+ residential construction projects for both homeowners and real estate investors.
Prior to joining the Hanley team in 2013, he managed multiple engineering transformation and process improvement initiatives for PWC, IBM, Accenture and Booz Allen Hamilton. He is a licensed real estate agent with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech.
Tom enjoys spending time with family, coaching basketball at the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club, and outdoor sports including paddle tennis, pickleball, golf, biking, waterskiing and hiking.

For the last 20-plus years, Jay Hanley has established and grown his Nantucket real estate construction and development business as principal owner of Hanley Construction and Development, The Hanley Garrette Group and Hanley Development Capital LLC. Comprehensively, these companies likely represent the most vertically integrated and experienced construction, real estate and development entity on the island. Since arriving on Nantucket, Jay has led the construction of 125+ residential and commercial building projects and spearheaded more than 50 development deals, resulting in more than $300 million of transacted real estate. Throughout his career, Jay has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience, along with a thorough understanding of Nantucket’s unique, nuanced real estate market. The many relationships he has forged within this small island community are essential to his successes.
Prior to moving to Nantucket in 2002, Jay worked for several years as a fixed income portfolio manager at leading investment banks in San Francisco and New York City. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Bucknell University in 1994 and is an alumnus of Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
Jay lives between Naples FL, Hingham MA, and Nantucket with his wife and two children.
Business Manager
Bri Walling joined the Hanley Development team in 2021 as Business Manager. In addition to certifications as a Florida-licensed REALTOR® and Texas-certified dental technician, she is a military veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Navy for seven years. Her first orders sent her to Yokosuka, Japan for three years. Bri quickly excelled in the military, studying Behavioral Sciences at UMUC and later finishing her degree in College Park, MD. She moved up in the ranks and was selected to serve a two-year term on the Presidential Dental Team, an exclusive group of six technicians serving the President of the United States. Upon the birth of her daughter at the President’s Hospital in Bethesda, MD, she and her husband separated from the service and relocated to Naples, FL in 2013.
Bri managed a prestigious coworking facility which exposed her to the operations of various startups, venture capitalists and real estate professionals. She later joined a digital news company where she learned graphic design, marketing, writing and video editing skills. She served as an anchor on the company’s site, which boosted her confidence to take on the next challenge – real estate. She obtained her license in Florida and worked with an appraisal management company where she gained experience in home valuation and financing. She joined the Hanley enterprise in and, as they say, the rest is history.
